We’re wishing a huge happy birthday to our special girl Willow as she turns two years old today! 🎈

How do you celebrate such a special girl’s birthday? Why with a birthday bubble bath, of course! Willow wasn’t particularly too fussed by this new curiosity...

This funny, affectionate and intelligent girl was born at Wingham Wildlife Park and is the daughter of our very own male Cheetah, Bajrami. Willow joined our big cat family in November 2017 at four months old and played a starring role in the BBC Two series Big Cats About The House alongside our Director of Big Cats and Conservation Giles Clark.

She has grown into a wonderful little lady who is famous for her incredibly cute constant purring. She is a very relaxed cat around keepers and guests alike, holding a special place in a lot of hearts!
Over the past year, she has started her training programme with Senior Keeper Ricky and is currently developing and finessing her skills constantly, from A to B training to desensitising her for the purpose of health checks, such as jabs, claw checks, blood tests and even tooth and ear checks. Ricky has also tried to listen to her heartbeat with a stethoscope, but can’t hear anything over her enormous purrs!

Willow loves to play and takes part in lots of different play enrichment with the keeping team from chasing anything on a rope to playing with rattle balls; she is even known to run around her enclosure at high speed when she is having a “mad” moment.
Willow adores food and has recently started receiving hand feeds as part of our new Maya and Willow Encounter experience.
As a cheetah, she represents an incredibly unique species of wild cat that is currently listed as Vulnerable by the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species with fragmented populations in pockets across the African continent - occupying only 9% of their historic range. Willow currently stands as a fantastic ambassador for her wild cousins and in the future we hope she may even contribute to the global breeding programme.
