This video shows our Serval mum, Samia, with her 6 week old kittens. They are getting braver at exploring their enclosure now, with the reassuring licks and cuddles to encourage them from mum, Samia. Samia is never far away while they play fight or explore new areas of the enclosure, and she is very quick to step in if they seem slightly spooked by anything (such as noisy lions and tigers!). They seem to be getting even more bouncy by the day!




The Big Cat Sanctuary is set in the heart of the countryside at Smarden, in Kent. The peace and tranquillity of the site provides a sanctuary and excellent conditions for the successful breeding of the beautiful, yet endangered cats both large and small within the European Endangered Species Breeding http://www.whf.org.uk

One of the stars of the BBC Two show 'Big Cats About the House', Maya the Jaguar arrived at The Big Cat Sanctuary in Smarden, Kent in July 2017.

Maya is an intelligent, confident and affectionate character and is becoming bigger and stronger every day.

Bajrami, Keene and Martin were born in a litter of eight at Boras Zoo in Sweden, then made their way to Paradise Wildlife Park in Hertfordshire. They came to The Big Cat Sanctuary on 16 June 2014. Very different in appearance and character they are all very lovely cats.

Here you see them relaxing and the hierarchy at feeding time.

Huge news! Our Snow leopard cubs have made their debut appearance into their outdoor enclosure!
Accompanied by doting mum Laila, the boys were given a little taste of the outside world with our Lead Photographer Alma there to witness the first reaction. These beautiful images are what Alma managed to capture from this monumental step for the brothers – aren’t they just gorgeous!

True to character, the lighter smaller cub bounded out of the tunnel leading from their inside den to enthusiastically explore this new space. The darker, bigger sibling stayed close to mum, sitting between her paws or by her side. Both of the brothers did a small amount of exploring together, which we anticipate will continue over the coming days and weeks.

We were also joined by the team from BBC South East Today for the occasion, following which our boys made their TV debut on the evening news segment. To watch this, head over to our YouTube channel.

We hope this important milestone brings you all as much joy as it has for us (and most importantly, the cubs); we’re excited to say that we will shortly be releasing details of how these boys can be adopted – watch this space for more info! 🐾

Our 2019 Open Days were a huge success! Once again we were blown away with the enormous support we received from visitors over the five days. We can’t thank you enough for coming out and joining us once again; through high heat and even pouring rain!

The kittens like to sit and watch the world go by, either from a hiding place in the bushes or from the top of their rocks, platforms and even their firehose hammock! You can see they are changing their fur colour as they get their adult winter coats, particularly the larger male kitten that is very ginger. Lots of claw sharpening going on, watch out Mr Vet man, they are getting ready for your next visit! They are also still working on their little mouthing actions, but it is still quite silent so far, rather than the little mumbling sound they should make when they chitter.
